News from BATTS.....and looking ahead..........
2019 is turning into another very busy year for BATTS, and we are delighted to see such a steady increase in the popularity of table tennis at all levels.
Read on for a selection of news items and events to note. We have something for everyone, whether your interest is as a competitor or a social player.
Super Series Tournaments
We can look back on three very successful junior tournaments since December. Our Super Series tournaments seem to fill up earlier each time.
At our Junior Two Star on Sunday 17th February we managed to cram 50 players into the draw. But everyone had plenty of matches as always and we were very happy with the performance of the nine BATTS players who took part. Six of the nine made it through to the main draw, with several overcoming higher ranked players to qualify for the Band 1 knock out stage.
There are three more tournaments coming up in the BATTS calendar. Details are on our website. Don't leave it too late to enter - we offer great cash prizes in all our tournaments.
International Duty at 11....!
Congratulations to Ralph Pattison who has been selected to represent his school, Harlowbury Primary, in an international match in Northern Ireland in April.
Ralph first arrived at BATTS just two years ago, having never played table tennis before, during one of the regular visits from Harlowbury Primary.
He was immediately hooked, and began clocking up his 10,000 hours. The only days now when he is missing from BATTS are when he is travelling to tournaments!
It has been a tough season for our six teams. Currently, none are placed higher than 5th in their division but there is plenty of hope for the future.
Most of our senior teams are made up of young players who have gained fantastic experience from the high level of competition, and we are always trying to give opportunities to our youngsters.
We are cautiously optimistic about holding our place in the Premier Division of the Senior British League. Looking ahead, it would be great to have teams in the womens and girls divisions - hopefully next season!
There will be at least one more opportunity to come and support our top team in the Premier Division at BATTS this season but we are awaiting confirmation of the date.
BATTS Open Singles League
We are staggered at the popularity of the BATTS Open Singles League, and we now have 108 players registered. Flexible, highly competitive, and family-friendly, the Open Singles is suitable for ALL players from beginner to advanced.
The current series just has two more pairs of sessions (competitors can choose to play either on Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons) and at the end we shall be awarding £1,000 in prizes.
The next series is now open for registrations. You can get more details and sign up on our website HERE. In the next series, we hope to extend our age range of players. Currently, the youngest is 6 and the oldest 85......
International TT coming to BATTS - note the date!
We are proud to have been asked by Table Tennis England to host a three-way Women's International match on the weekend of 18th and 19th May.
This is a qualifier for the European Championships which will be held in France later in the year. The England women will be facing tough opposition from Spain and Belgium. This is just a preliminary announcement, and I shall give updates nearer the time, but make a note of the dates because it will be a fantastic (and free!) opportunity to watch some top class international table tennis at our club.
Magnificent 7 in Crawley
Although this is not a BATTS event it is a worthwhile enterprise which will involve seven leading British players competing at the K2 in Crawley.
Organiser Steve Pound is raising funds for the event via crowd-funding. The tournament will take place on 10th and 11th August. See the link below
